After an early start, we embarked on our Year 8 residential, and when we finally got on the ferry, we realised it was just a one hour crossing to Calais! On the way to our hotel in France, we stopped at the Nausica aquarium, where we saw lots of marine life. After settling into our hotel and receiving our dorms, we sat down for dinner and learnt about French etiquette. The next morning, we had breakfast and set off on our first field trip – the Battlefield of the Somme. We learnt about life in the trenches and the history of the battle. Afterwards, we went to a museum dedicated to the battle and went to see a bomb crater. The following day, we left for another exciting day, this time we went to the market and were given Euros to spend for our lunch!
When we got back to the hotel at the end of the afternoon, we started preparing for French Night. Everyone dressed up and we went to dinner. The food was delicious and we even got to try a snail! Sadly this was our last night and after dinner we went to our dorms to pack. On Friday, we left the hotel early and headed home, stopping en route at a French supermarket, where we spent our money on French delicacies. A wonderful week away to start Year 8.
