Asset 4

Sport and Physical Education are integral to the development of the children at King’s. We have a strong school ethos of embracing the “sport for all” concept. Enjoyment and commitment to sport helps develop self-confidence, self-fulfilment, team spirit, and the ability to accept your part in victory and defeat; all-important lessons for life’s challenges. At King’s we aim to develop children’s physical competence and ability in a safe and supportive environment. A balance of individual and group work, as well as co-operative and competitive activities, caters for the preferences, strengths and needs of each pupil through a broad and balanced curriculum.

Set in 9 Acres

King’s is set in approximately 9 acres of land and we are fortunate enough to have all our sporting facilities on site including athletics fields, cricket and rugby pitches, astro-courts for hockey and netball, full size tennis and squash courts and an outdoor heated swimming pool (open during the Easter Term, September and October). In 2019 we also opened a state of the art 8500sq ft Sports and Cultural Centre, featuring a dance studio and a 4 Badminton court size multi-sports hall which doubles as an auditorium with retractable tiered seating.

A Broad & Balanced Programme

Our aim is to encourage all pupils to represent their school in a major sport, instilling high standards of sporting conduct on and off the pitches/courts.

A focus on developing excellent fundamentals, which encompass the technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects of sport are reinforced throughout the school. The concept of a healthy and active lifestyle is integrated into all our games and PE lessons, reinforcing the idea of a lifelong love of sport and physical activity.

Junior Lessons
Years 3 and 4 have two triple games lessons per week and one double PE lesson.

Senior Lessons
Years 5 and 6 have two double games lessons per week, alongside the major games afternoon on a Wednesday. Like Years 3 and 4, they also have a double PE lesson each week.

Year 7 and 8 have two games lessons, alongside the Wednesday afternoon games programme, and have PE built into the Cresco Division.

Extra-curricular Sport

Tennis

Squash

For those children wanting to elect this option as an extra-curricular activity, we have a full-time programme of Squash for all ages and standards from Pre-Prep to Year 8. Our resident Squash Coach is vastly experienced at developing young squash players from beginner to area and national standard, a fully qualified Fitness Instructor, Badminton and Multi-Skills coach, the programme aims to include provision for all – including parents and staff at the school.

Tennis

Tennis is also offered as an extra-curricular activity and King’s has a full-time tennis coach for pupils from Reception to Year 8, and also their parents. Lessons are offered before, during and after school in an individual, paired or group environment. Enrolment takes place at the end of the Easter term for the following school year. At King’s, tennis is a game for both fun and fitness, and by providing coaching in an encouraging environment we ensure that all students, regardless of their ability, are supported in learning and enjoying tennis.
