Founded in September 2020, The Schola Cantorum is a small auditioned chamber choir for girls, who rehearse several times each week. In time, following their initial training, it is envisaged that the Schola Cantorum may sing services once a week in a local Chapel or Church, as well as performing in concerts and recitals. In addition to the significant investment in weekly training and performance opportunities, members of the Schola Cantorum will also participate in masterclasses and choral workshops with other professionals in the field, as well as having the opportunity to learn by watching and listening to other choirs rehearsing and performing. A programme of individual and small group singing lessons will also be available.
There are no regular weekend commitments, although it is hoped from time to time the Schola Cantorum will accept invitations to sing in concerts and services which may take place during the weekend.
From Year 6, members of the Schola Cantorum are eligible for 50% assistance with fees for individual weekly (term time) music lessons, to be taken with a Visiting Music Teacher in school, for one instrument which is agreed with the Director of Music.
Auditioning
Parents of girls in Year 3 will be advised each year of the process for registering interest for membership ahead of auditions before the start of Year 4. Current Year 3 and Year 4 girls are invited to contact the Director of Music (Mr James Randle, jrandle@kcs.cambs.sch.uk) before 9.00 a.m. on Monday 5 June to arrange an audition.
