On possibly the wettest, coldest, un-Roman February day, the Year 4 children brought warmth, joy and excitement for Roman Day at King’s. Year 4 listened carefully and worked hard at the wide variety of activities that “Those History People” provided. The children created clay pots and jars, wax tablets for communication, hand-made copper pins, leather finger protection for archery, mosaics and scented perfume bags. They had quite a haul by the end of the day!
The children also took part in some role play as Roman soldiers and archers, practicing castral, turtle and tension formations, as well as some very wet marches around the school.
In the afternoon, the children were archeologists, carefully digging up a range of different artefacts, identifying the objects and deciding what kind of buildings they may have been investigating in the Roman towns.
