For the final day of their Activity Week programme, Juniors had a ‘Poetry Day’. In the morning, we were joined by the poet Mark Grist, who kept the children enthralled and entertained with his combination of rap and poetry. After his performance, he led the children in an absolutely superb poetry writing workshop. The work they created was breathtakingly good, and it was wonderful to see the children being so supportive of one another as they performed their own poems.
Mark stayed with us all day and, in the afternoon, was the judge for this year’s Junior Poetry Competition. The standard was incredibly high and the audience were royally entertained by all of the finalists. After much deliberation, the Year 3 Highly Commended certificate winners were chosen as Iggy D, Sophie K, Benjamin M, Eleanor S and Ryan Y. The winners in Year 4 were Nicodemus A-B, James C, Anders J, Maggie MacD and Elinor W.
