The King’s Chess teams exceeded even the impressive high standards of recent years in winning the Cambridgeshire Schools League for the fifth time in the nine year history of the league – no other school has won it more than once.
In addition the A team achieved the remarkable distinction dropping only 6.5 boards out of a possible 90, a 93% success rate, albeit in a slightly weaker field than in some recent seasons, which is the highest yet achieved in the league’s history.
Yvan, Itamar and Jackson were a tower of strength on the top three Boards and there was excellent support from Benny, Hugo, Georg, Danny, Luke, and Thomas.
The B team finished 4th and the C team 7th from 16 teams. Strong B team players on the fringe of A team selection included Hanson, Alex, Gabriel, Jack and Jake.
The D and E teams had their moments with particular credit to Henry, James, Maddie, Ivo, Tobin and Nicholas.
