After months of careful planning, construction and landscaping, we were delighted to open the Platinum Jubilee Garden last week. Situated in the heart of the school (outside the Briggs building), the Garden was named as such to commemorate the late Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne.
At its inaugural opening last year, during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, and as part of the Queen’s green canopy initiative, we planted the first of 7 flowering cherry trees named Snow Goose in the garden…one for each decade of the late Queen’s reign.
The garden provides a quiet area for pupils in Years 7 and 8 to sit and talk, read, and play chess in a calm, peaceful space, during their breaktimes. We also look forward to using the space for smaller group lessons, talks and activities with the children.
We would also like to extend our thanks to the PTA for their contribution to the installation of an artificial grass surface, which will allow all year round use of the space.
