King’s College School has enjoyed a remarkable period of success in athletics, with pupils delivering exceptional performances across multiple competitions and achieving significant milestones for the school.
Our Year 4 and 5 athletes made an excellent impression at the East Area Athletics Competition. Competing with determination, focus and pride, every pupil represented the school to the highest standard. Among the standout performances, Naomi B delivered two superb victories in the 100m and 600m, while Jonty K secured first place in the long jump with an impressive display of skill and technique. It was a strong all-round team effort and a day that reflects the promise and enthusiasm within our younger athletes.
A particularly historic moment came at the Cornwall Shield Athletics Competition, held at Kimbolton School. For the first time in the school’s history, King’s claimed the Cornwall Shield title. This outstanding achievement is a testament to the dedication, commitment and teamwork shown by all athletes, as well as the quality of preparation and support provided by both Games lessons and after school Clubs.
At a more advanced level, King’s was also represented by a team of 14 athletes at the National Preparatory Schools’ qualifying event at Bedford Stadium. Competing against 51 other prep schools, our pupils gained invaluable experience in a highly competitive environment.
Several athletes achieved notable success. Arthur Z produced an excellent performance to secure a bronze medal in the Year 7 boys’ long jump, an achievement matched by Aoife M, who also claimed bronze in the Year 6 girls’ long jump. Rebekah A delivered one of the most outstanding performances of the day, finishing second in the Year 8 girls’ 100m final and earning qualification for the national finals in Birmingham.
These results highlight the strength and depth of athletics at King’s. Across all age groups, pupils have demonstrated resilience, ambition and a commitment to excellence. The Junior and Pre-Prep Sports Days took place last week and we are looking forward to the Year 5-8 Sports Day next month.
