Body Percussion and Brazillian Samba Workshop

Oct, 2021 | News

The School resounded with joyous stamping, clapping, tapping and shaking as pupils took part in percussion workshops throughout the day on Thursday 7th October.  The workshops were a mixture of Body Percussion and Brazillian Samba drumming and were hugely enjoyed by all who took part – including the staff!  Year 7 had a shimmy in their step as they turned their hands (and feet) to the rhythms and movements of a Rio Carnival, whilst Year 1 made a rainstorm soundscape using just their hands and feet.  Workshops were led by a talented duo from Beat Goes On who specialise in percussion workshops.

Their director Ollie Tunmer, who led the body percussion workshops, is a former cast member of the world-renowned percussion stage show, STOMP.  He was joined by Raz Jayasuriya who runs his own samba studio and really brought the world of the Rio Carnival and its Samba parades to life for us all.

As one child commented, “this is so loud!  It’s totally AMAZING!”.  Many of the children have asked if the percussive pair will be back some day and we sincerely hope they will!
