Bespoke programmes of study running in parallel to the standard curriculum.

“Mathematics… is a bit like discovering oil.  … But mathematics has one great advantage over oil, in that no one has yet … found a way that you can keep using the same oil forever.”

Andrew Wiles

commitment to maths

Mindful of our close proximity to the University’s Faculty of Mathematics and world-famous mathematical alumni, the inception of the King’s Maths Lab represents our commitment to inspiring future generations of mathematicians through specialist teaching.  It is also a response to the ever growing number of pupils working at a gifted and talented level in this subject.

From September 2025, we have been delighted to be able to offer small groups of pupils from Reception to Year 8, as well as individual pupils, weekly lessons in our Maths Lab.

In keeping with the Faculty’s philosophy of Mathematics for all, pupils follow bespoke programmes of study that run parallel to the School’s standard Mathematics curriculum, and are designed to:

challenge & extend

We challenge and excite our most able and gifted mathematicians by honing their problem-solving skills, as well as introducing them to more advanced mathematical concepts.

support & nurture

Support our least confident mathematicians by providing creative opportunities for them to consolidate and develop their mathematical skills and understanding.

If you would like to find out more about our Maths Lab, or discuss a prospective pupil’s potential engagement with this programme, please contact Mr Tom Coe-Hales, our Deputy Head Academic and teacher of Maths Lab lessons (tcoe-hales@kcs.cambs.sch.uk).
