INSPECTION REPORT 2026

As part of the regular cycle of visits to independent schools, King’s College School was inspected in January 2026. The inspection framework includes focus on compliance with the Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations 2014 (ISSRs), the National Minimum Standards for Boarding 2022, and the requirements of the Early Years Statutory Framework.

The emphasis under the new framework, no longer gives single-word judgements such as Excellent, Good, or Outstanding. Instead, the focus is now entirely on whether the standards are met. Inspectors consider the key areas of the school’s provision, including: the quality of education; pupils’ personal development; leadership and management; and compliance with statutory standards. The resulting report is a narrative of their findings constructed over the three days of their visit, highlighting particular strengths, and identifying areas that would benefit from further refinement.

The inspection found King’s College School, Cambridge  to have met all of the standards forming the focus of the inspection:

  • Leadership, management and governance
  • Quality of education, training and recreation
  • Pupils’ physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Pupils’ social and economic education and contribution to society
  • Safeguarding

Highlights from the 2026 report include:

“An environment centred around the promotion of the school’s values of ‘kindness, creativity, strength and community’”

“Pupils are encouraged to pursue their interests through hard work and commitment in order to become confident and curious individuals”
