As part of their Design Technology curriculum, our Year 7 students had the exciting opportunity to visit the Silverstone Interactive Museum, home of British motorsport and innovation. The trip was designed to inspire creative thinking and deepen our understanding of engineering, product design, and technological development.
On arrival, we were greeted by a huge display of historic racing cars and interactive exhibits. Students explored how vehicle design has changed over time, from early Formula 1 cars to cutting-edge electric models. The hands-on activities were a highlight for many of us—especially the racing simulator and the STEM workshop.
We also had the chance to walk the Heritage Track Trail, which took us on to part of the world-famous Silverstone circuit. Standing where legendary F1 drivers have raced was an unforgettable experience, despite the rain.
One of the most inspiring parts of the visit was learning about the STEM careers involved in motorsport, including engineering, robotics, product design, and sustainability. Many students left feeling motivated about future pathways in design and technology.
Overall, the trip was educational, interactive, and a lot of fun. We can’t wait to apply what we learned back in the classroom as we undertake the F1 in Schools project!
