Year 6 Trip to Norfolk

Apr, 2024 | News

Year 6 pupils enjoyed a trip to one of the largest and best preserved monastic sites in England, dating back to 1090 and home of the first Cluniac monks to England.

The pupils were divided into groups for the two activities of the day:  a tour of the whole site with Mr Spindler and Mrs McNiff focusing on the themes of ‘Medieval Life’ and ‘A life of Faith’, whilst the other half, armed with tape measures and clipboards chose different buildings across the site to measure in preparation for creating scale models in their DT lessons when back in school. Measuring across areas of water proved to be an interesting challenge and some of the estimations of building heights were quite variable!

The morning session saw four seasons in one day with rain, hail and a chilly northerly breeze, and, on several occasions, sanctuary was taken in the less ruined parts of the Priory! The weather did fair slightly better after lunch, allowing the children to get outside and really appreciate the size and scale of the Priory.

The children did extremely well to keep going in the soggy conditions, and all staff were impressed with how well the children listened and worked during the course of the day.
