For the second successive year, our Year 6 pupils visited Imperial War Museum Duxford last week. In contrast to the more orthodox bushcraft-related team building activities undertaken by other year groups, the purpose of this trip was to develop children’s collaborative skills whilst they engage with the many inspiring exhibits.
In the morning, our pupils enthusiastically participated in The Documentary Challenge, producing a series of short films in groups, with the aim of highlighting the connections between Battle of Britain artefacts and current goings-on around the world. They also received a guided tour of The Operations Block and explored The American Air Museum.
After lunch, pupils experienced what it was like to travel on a de Havilland Comet 4 and Concorde, as well as doing some observational drawings of the other remarkable aircraft in the AirSpace hangar.
A thoroughly enjoyable day for pupils and staff was capped off by the two volunteers that had been working with us, who commented that our pupils were “a credit to the school”, both in terms of their high standards of behaviour and attitude to learning.
