Year 4 have been learning about the Cornish artist Alfred Wallis, whose life as a Cornish fisherman inspired his paintings in later life. Discovering his paintings led to Year 4 creating their own fabric collages on the theme of the sea and boats. First pupils dyed their background fabric before designing, cutting and sticking on fabrics to create their artwork. Pupils explored composition, alongside the use of colour, shape, pattern and texture in their work. The final embellishments were added through stitching into their collages. Creativity and developing new skills was enjoyed by all. A collection of Alfred Wallis’s paintings can be seen here in Cambridge at the Kettle’s Yard house.
