U12 IAPS Hockey Nationals

The U12 Girls Hockey on Friday 19th November took part in the National IAPS Schools Competition hosted by Repton School. Taking part against some of the best hockey talent and schools up and down the country. The Girls started off the tournament well, putting some strong performances but struggling to put that all important ball in the back of the net, drawing against Danes Hill 0-0 and losing against Seaford to a breakaway goal 0-1. After looking like one of the best teams in the group stage the girls bounced back so well and went on to win their remaining group games comfortably, luckily finishing 2nd, narrowly qualifying for the cup stage on goal difference. Isabella, Elena, Ophelia, Willa, Freya, Ottilie and Viki showing incredible skill sets throughout.

Now into the top 10, the girls had to play a fierce Downsend team and even more threatening 20 parents on the sidelines in the quarter final. The girls knew it was going to be a tough game; however, were also aware that if they were prepared to work harder than them, they knew they could get a decent result and that’s exactly what they did. The whole team ran themselves to exhaustion and Viki made some great saves, only for Freya to score a smash and grab goal to win the game earning huge respect from other teachers, parents and players.

The semi-final was a cagey affair against Millfield finishing 0-0 and going to penalty flicks. Up stepped Viki, Ophelia, Isabella and Elena, showing composure, great technique and ability to handle pressure, the girl’s flicks were all executed superbly and Viki made some awesome saves to get the team through to the final. The best finish the schools ever had a national hockey tournament. The girls were exhausted by the last game and Repton Prep School run away comfortable winners in the final.

As the girls collected their 2nd place medals, they got the biggest cheer from other parents and players from other schools primarily for the fantastic work they had put in. Amazing achievement to all those that participated, including Aoife, Maggie and Bea. The whole school is so proud of you all.

Rugby

The U13 and U11 house Rugby was held on Wednesday on the King’s College School fields and it was great to see that house spirit back in full abundance. Teams showed great commitment, determination and skill level and that fierce competitive edge was there for all to see. Houses played in a  round robin competition with a finals play off to round off the very successful day.

Grange took out the Under 13 House rugby whilst Burrells prevailed in the U11’s. The Year 3&4’s had their own house event in Tag rugby on Thursday in which Grange ended taking the silverware.

The house events often bring out the best sporting performances from our pupils and this week certainly illustrated that. Well done players!
