Mathematics

Department Aims & Objectives:

Mathematics equips children with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. These tools include arithmetic fluency; logical reasoning; problem solving skills and the ability to think in abstract ways. Mathematics is integral to all aspects of life and with this in mind, we try to ensure that children at King's develop a healthy, enthusiastic and lasting attitude toward the subject.

Mathematics teaching at King’s is largely based on a version of the National Numeracy Framework, although it is annually adjusted to meet the entrance requirements of our pupils' prospective senior schools, including the syllabus for Common Entrance at 13+.

The National Numeracy Framework is based on four Attainment Targets:

· AT1 Using and Applying Number

· AT2 Number and Algebra

· AT3 Shape, Space and Measures

· AT4 Handling Data.

The Mathematics programme of study at King's centres on enabling pupils to meet key objectives.
