A pupil with Specific Learning difficulties (SpLD) is someone who is found to have one or more of their areas of learning that is significantly different from the majority of their peers. This may be identified through assessment, teacher observation, parental concern or by child self referral. After parental consultation the pupil will be assessed by the Head of Centre and , if appropriate, work with a specialist teacher within the centre. After a length of time, as appropriate, pupils are then referred to an Educational Psychologist for a formal assessment. This will give a cognitive profile of the child identifying both learning strengths and weaknesses. The assessments are used by the Centre to inform an individualised teaching programme.
The most common difficulties identified are dyslexia and dyspraxia.
