Questions
1. What sort of music should my child prepare?
A simple song (sacred or secular) or hymn.
2. What are you looking for in a chorister?
Enthusiasm for singing, vocal potential, and a good musical ear.
3. What is the earliest age my child can become a chorister?
Normally Year 4.
4. At what age would he cease being a chorister?
At the end of Year 8.
5. How does the work of a chorister fit in with the daily academic work?
Choristers follow the normal academic course.
6. What does the average day of a chorister look like?
On the days when these take place, choir practices and services come at the beginning and the end of the school day.
7. Can you explain how the financial arrangements for being a chorister work?
The college pays about two-thirds of the school fees: there are additional emoluments and charges. Additional funds are available in cases of need.
8. How long will the audition last?
About 8-10 minutes.
9. What happens about concerts and touring?
These are regulated by statute law and by the College’s Use of Choir Committee, of which the Headmaster is a member.
10. How does the boarding system work for choristers?
The choristers form the majority in the board house and are comprehensively cared for by the Housemaster, his staff and the matron.
11. Can my son become a chorister without boarding?
No, sorry.
