GAP Year Students

King's College School is proud to support national and international students in gaining valuable life experiences during their break from studying.  Our Gap students are selected independently following an application letter and/or a recommendation.  After being short listed applicants will be interviewed via skype.

During term time the Gap students support the everyday running of the school and follow a very busy timetable supervising break times, lunch queues and assisting teachers in class and on the games field.  During the holidays 'Gaps' enjoy time away from the school and more often than not travel into Europe or around the U.K.

For more information please contact David Thorpe (teacher responsible for Gap students) at dthorpe@kcs.cambs.sch.uk

I went to a school similar to Kings in Windsor, and wanted to get involved with chorister life again. In the meantime I am concentrating on my cello and singing and am enjoying sharing my enthusiasm with the pupils here at Kings. If not in the music school, you will find me on the rugby pitch. Playing sport has always been important to me so having a team to work with is exciting. I have just finished at Oundle School and hope to go on to study music in London next year.

Hey,
My name is Ryan Morgan and I have come from Australia at the beginning of the year to work as a gap student at Kings. I am originally from Sydney in a suburb called Coogee, in New South Wales and am settling in slowly but surely getting used to the weather and adjusting to the concept of playing various games such as Gaelic football on a pitch covered in snow. But all in all, I’m really enjoying Kings, all of the kids and the English life.
I have a passion for travelling and this year am planning to visit many country’s all over Europe. I’m also really interested in the Kings College choir and after attending a few of the services I was blown away and am looking forward to hearing them sing throughout the year.
In school I was really involved in the arts especially drama, am also a keen swimmer and have played water polo competitively back home. I have enjoyed competing in these sports in and out of school with other sports including cricket and rugby. Following my year at kings I am studying a bachelor of commerce and media in Sydney, but that’s a long time off.
So far I have been greeted with many questions about animals and in particularly got asked  “If I had been chased by a shark”, which I found very amusing as well as being called “Brian” instead of “Ryan” haha.
I’m having a great time so far and am looking forward to the year ahead, if you ever need a hand with anything please feel free to contact me and I’m more then happy to babysit or generally just help out.

G’Day! I’m Angela, and I am one of the gaps here at King’s this year. I come from a country town in Australia called Goulburn – famous for its giant concrete sheep! – and am absolutely loving the opportunity to spend a year in Cambridge. In my time I have had a go at most sports, and particularly enjoyed netball, touch football and soccer – whoops, ‘football’ – as well as playing the flute, doing public speaking and debating at school. A gap year at King's is a brilliant mixing pot of all sorts of experiences and it allows me to help out in many varied different parts of the school; from the ceildh’s and barn dance’s to netball tournaments and all sorts of sports and of course the music here is sensational!
In the future I’m going back home to study combined law at university in Sydney, however this year is all about exploring my options annd exploring the world, as I plan on making the most of my (comparative) closeness to Europe and doing lots of travelling in my breaks!
If anyone ever needs a babysitter or just a helping hand, I am always more than willing to help out so feel free to contact me.
