I.C.T ~ Scheme of Work

 

The ICT Scheme of Work at King's College School is largely based on the National QCA recommended scheme.  There are however projects and topics which do not appear in the QCA scheme but are considered important in the children's development of computer skills and knowledge.

PowerPoint: inserting images, sound recordings, hyperlinks, animated effects.

Word: Create a ‘visitor’s guide’ to a chosen European country i.e facts and relevant information
 
Excel: Holiday quotation for flights, accommodation and other expenses for a short break, using formulas to convert pounds to Euros and calculate totals.
 
Publisher: Postcard from abroad. Create a postcard including a relevant stamp.

Control Technology ~ Flowol: bringing mimics to life. Creating procedures to operate Fire Appliance systems.
 
PowerPoint: Create an interactive story book based on a famous tale. Should include audio, video, images and hyperlinks for use with a SMART board.
Controlling devices to solve problems ~ ‘Mission Control’ software.
 
Flowol: creating flow charts to operate lighthouse, zebra crossing and traffic light sequences.

 Modelling effects on screen ~
Softease Studio:
Controlling on-screen turtles, creating procedures to draw shapes and patterns.
Branching Databases ~ (Weeks 1-4)
Softease Studio: Create branching diagrams, add images, and edit questions. Search other pupils’ branch databases.

‘Resistant Materials’ database: Search for items by name and properties.

Create a database of children’s DVDs using the Internet to find required information.

Spreadsheets ~
Excel: Compare nutritional information of a food product (biscuits/crisps/chocolate bars (fat, salt, sugar content, price).
Arrange data in spreadsheet and compare using formulas and graphs. Evaluate findings and present in Word by exporting graphs/information.
Video Editing ~
Digital Blue: Import/Film a selection of video clips and edit to create a promotional video for King’s. Video should include sound, on-screen text, and transitional effects between clips.
 
Using Multimedia ~ Interactive story book for children ~
Complete work from Autumn term burn completed work to disk.
Computer Animation ~
Maya: Create professional animation of a simple object, working with a professional animator.
E-mail/web safety ~
Discuss use of social networking sites, dangers of giving too much info.

Introduction to correct posture, hand position and typing.
Touch typing ~
Expert typing: Complete the lessons on software to improve typing skills.
Graphics & Digital images ~
Research information about digital photography from internet, reference websites correctly and accordingly.
 
PhotoDraw/Paint shop Pro: Manipulate/alter images using a range of different tools and effects.
 
Create a logo for an estate agent company.
Estate Agent Project’
 
Computer components ~
Dismantle a P.C and identify components. Use a given website to describe what each component does. Re-build the P.C correctly to see if it will run.
Spreadsheets ~
Excel: Create a hyperlink to a chosen website. Use information from the website to create a quiz in Excel. Use comment boxes to gives clues, lists to give multiple choice and ‘IF’ formulas to self-mark the test.

E-mailing ~
E-mail safety. Reading, deleting and replying to mail. Composing messages, sending single/multiple copies and adding attachments. Creating an address book.

Introduction to inputs/outputs using ‘Crystal rainforest’ program.
