World Book Day in Pre-Prep
On 1st March, the children and staff in Pre-Prep arrived at school dressed as their favourite characters from a book. Mr Men, witches, lions, rats, caterpillars and many more then made their way to the hall for a sharing assembly at the start of the day. The costumes were wonderful - lots of hard work had obviously gone into making them!

Throughout the day, each class undertook activites based around their author of choice.
James Mayhew, a children's author and illustrator, also visited us and captured the children's imagination by telling exciting stories while drawing an accompanying picture at the same time! These illustrations are coming soon to Mrs King's library. Mr Mayhew also spent some time working with the children in each class before returning to the library to sign and sell his books to parents.

Reception
Miss Turner's class loved their Mr Men day! Some of the children commented as follows:
"I enjoyed making the Mr Men puppets" - M. Greenway.
"I liked colouring the dragons (that Mr Mayhew drew)"- E. Salam-Browne
"I liked dressing up as Mr Strong" - C. Michell.

Miss Pearman's children spent the morning acting out scences from their favoutrite Julia Donaldson story. They then worked so hard on drawing, with detail, their chosen character in a setting from the story in which they appeared. Miss Pearman and Miss Harman were very proud of their hard work in producing some amazing pictures!
Year 1
George in 1FS wrote 'On World Book Day, I dressed up as a Macaroni penguin from Eric Carle's 'Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What do you see?' I liked talking to James Mayhew and painting the pictures of the rock pie in the oven from his story 'Baba Jaga the Witch'.
Winnie the Witch visited 1MH on World Book Day! In celebration of the day, we wrote our own Winnie the Witch stories, 'Winnie and the Magic Treasure' and 'Winnie's Magic Shrinking Shop', which we then illustrated and 'published'. The children also invented their own magic words including 'bish bash bosh', 'abracawhizz' and 'hocus pocus'. We created large Winnie collages and baked our own Winnie the Witch 'under the sea' biscuits. What a deliciously creative day!

Year 2
Matilda in 2HW reported that 'On world Book Day, I liked painting in the library. Also, I liked dressing up as Caspar the cat from the Prince of Cats.' Amadeu from 2HW wrote that 'On World Book Day, I liked dressing up as Tom in Beast Quest. I also liked the painting and the story that James Mayhew told us'.

Thank you to all the children, staff and parents for making our day so successful!
