year 7 visit to Kentwell July 2011

Year 7 visited Kentwell Hall, Suffolk, where the full Tudor recreation is taking place.  The weather was fine and, although a little hot, a shade cooler than for the previous few days.

Activities that could be witnessed included Archery, the travelling players, the Smithy. Weaving and dyeing, Preparing medicines, Alchemy, the Diary, Bakery and Brewhouse as well as Cooking in the kitchen and Music.  The felt makers also interested several of the groups.   The choristers were asked to prepare a song for the gentry, and were requested to sing it six times.  Many thanks to Juhwan Sohn, William Crane, William Hirtzel, Alex Banwell and Andreas Eccles-Williams.

The year was 1553 and there was much talk of what would happen after the imminent death of King Edward VI -might Lady Jane Grey be placed on the throne instead of the righful heir?  Lady Mary Grey (aged 8) was present.
