CHORUS OF APPROVAL
King’s College School has just received a glowing report from a team of ISI Inspectors following a full Standard Inspection last month. The School last underwent a full Inspection in 2006 and the Inspectors praised the improvements made since then.
They have made just three recommendations for the School to consider and the Senior Management Team has already taken steps to address these:
1) “ensure that recently updated policies and procedures are fully understood by all staff and become embedded in school practice”.
2) “further develop written reports to parents to ensure that they include information on how pupils can take the next steps in their progress”.
3) “in the EYFS, develop the outdoor area to provide a wider range of activities on a regular basis”.
Throughout the report there are many significant achievements. Headmaster Nick Robinson was delighted that the staff and children have received such high praise. Commenting on the report, he said: “we were thrilled with our last report in 2006, but this report is even better and it is great to see that the hard work of all the staff has been recognised by this wonderful tribute to the School. King’s is such a happy and vibrant family and we are so pleased that this is reflected in such a detailed report from the Inspectors.”
Among the many accolades in the ISI report, the Inspectors commented:
“Pupils are well educated and achieve high standards across the ability range in their learning and attitudes. Their skills are well developed. Curricular and extra-curricular provision are outstanding.”
“The high standards in teaching noted at the last Inspection (in 2006) have been maintained. Teaching is good overall and a significant proportion is outstanding.”
“The pupils’ personal development is excellent, as is their spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness.”
“The School provides excellent pastoral care and support and a high quality of welfare, health and safety in a caring, family environment.”
“Leadership and management, founded on a large and effective senior management team, are highly successful throughout the school and keenly promote the school’s aims.”
“The School fulfils its aims to prepare its pupils, as individuals, to be confident in a future with exceptional possibilities and enable the achievement of musical excellence.”
“Self-awareness is strong and pupils value one another’s differences. They are proud of the success of the choristers and fellow pupils’ wider achievements.”
“They (the children) understand the importance of following rules to keep safe and secure, making going to school a joyful experience.”
The Inspectors also found that the School is legally compliant in all areas: “At the time of the initial visit, the School met all the requirements of the Independent School Standards Regulations 2003, as subsequently amended.”
They also state that “Robust arrangements are in place for checking and recording the suitability of staff, governors and volunteers.”
